LGBT Discrimination In The Workplace
43
Something I truely care about is LGBT equality, being I myself am gender blind. I have found that I am afraid to talk about being with a girl, in the work place, though, it did get easier eventually. Many lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered people go through the same thing. Afraid of being fired because of their sexual prefrence.
Federal law. There is no federal law stopping gay discrimination in private employment. However, there is a executive order prohibiting this kind of discrimination.
State law. California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington, and Wisconsin, all have laws that prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation in private workplaces.
The Facts. These laws are not stopping the discrimination and the pain.
- 43% of LGBT have exprianced discrimination on the job
- 17% of LGBT have reported not being hired because of their orientation
- 28% of LGBT recived negitive evaluation or were not promoted because of their orientation
- 41% of LGBT were verbaly or physically harassed or had their work place vandilazed
- 90% of transgenderd have exprianced mistreatment on the job
These laws don't seem to be working, and we need to find a way to stop the hate. People need to be excepting and we are not. African American got their rights. Now we are fighting for ours.
I can't take credit for all the work. Heres where I got my help:
